Long lines on final day of early voting in Duval County

A line of early voters wrapped around the Mandarin Library Sunday.

It was among several sites that saw wait times an hour or longer on the final day of early voting in Duval County.

“I started to turn and wait till Tuesday, but my wife said, ‘No, let’s go ahead and get it done,’” Glenn Brown said.

The large crowds followed a day of historic turnout on Saturday.

More than 17,600 voters cast their early votes in the county, bringing the total number from early voting to 196,000, or 32 percent of eligible voters.

Action News Jax asked Supervisor of Elections Mike Hogan if polls are expected to be as busy on Tuesday.

He said it’s hard to say -- some precincts could see only light traffic because so many people voted early this year.

If you’re planning on voting Tuesday, you must go to your home precinct to cast your ballot.

You can look it up on duvalelections.com or call the elections office at 904-630-1414.

You’ll need an approved form of identification with a photo and signature on it.

Hogan says a driver's license is the easiest ID to bring.

Election staff is also encouraging people to bring their sample ballots with their answers filled in to speed up the process.

“It’s very important, very important to know what you are voting for,” voter Brenda Brown said. “Study the ballot first, be prepared when you come.”
