MAD DADS Jacksonville President speaks out after pregnant woman shot, killed in Hogan's Creek

A local family and nonprofit have teamed up to find answers in the death of a pregnant 25-year-old woman.

Ramona Solomon was shot on the basketball court at Julius Guinyard Park on Jefferson Street on Sunday.

Solomon was four months' pregnant.

Her body was found a short distance away in the 1400 block of Jefferson Street, at the Jefferson Plaza Apartments, police said.

She was taken to UF Health, where she was pronounced dead.

Right now, the gunman is still at large. Action News Jax reporter Courtney Cole spoke to Donald Foy, the president of Men Against Destruction Against Drugs and Social Disorder, or MAD DADS, who is calling on the community to speak up and come together to find the suspect and turn him or her in to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

“It’s not going to stop until we get involved to break the code of silence, to remove the individuals responsible for it off of our streets-- out of our neighborhood,” Foy said.

MAD DADS was founded in May 1989, by a group of African-American men and fathers from Omaha, Nebraska.

They were fed up with gang violence and drugs in the community, so they banded together to make a change.

Foy said there's no room in the community for anyone who can shoot and kill a pregnant woman.

“The person who did this has no heart,” Foy told Action News Jax. “Hopefully that this person would be brought to Justice."

While the investigation is still active, Foy said he's going to encourage the community to do its part to help JSO  find the person responsible.

“It’s the hardest thing to do, to get men and women involved. But we have to get out and knock on doors,” Foy said.

MAD DADS created this post on Facebook that has been shared nearly 300 times, but Foy said it's not enough.

“A lot of people -- look, period -- the thing about it is, is responding. You know? That’s the key, you know?”

Foy encourages anyone with information to call Crimestoppers at 866-845-TIPS (8477).

A vigil will be held for Ramona Solomon on Thursday evening at the Jefferson Plaza Apartments from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.
