JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating a drive-by shooting that killed a 13-year-old boy and injured 4 others, including a football coach Saturday night.
According to JSO, the group was coming back from football tryouts at the Legends Center and Gymnasium when their SUV was hit by gunfire at the intersections of West Moncrief and New Kings Rd.
Donald Foy with MAD DADS tells Action News Jax the entire situation is tragic, saying the gunman who committed his crime had no regard for human life.
“We’ve got to get these individuals off the streets of our community,” Donald stated. “Even the ones who were in the vehicle it’s going to be traumatic on their lives... If you had a problem with the driver do it with them. Don’t mess up these children’s lives like that.”
At this time, the Sheriff’s Office does not have a suspect, but Sheriff TK Waters said last night the shooting will remain a high priority.
As for Foy, he says JSO needs help from community members.
“This family has been totally destroyed by the loss of life. The responsibility is on us as a community to give them some closure.”
Foy also adds that if anyone knows who committed the crimes that they should speak up to local authorities.
If anyone has any information, please contact JSO through the non-emergency number (904) 630-0500 or if you would like to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
