CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — UPDATE 10:04 a.m.: Northbound lanes back open

Florida Highway Patrol reported that two children have died in a crash involving 12 people on US 301 at county road 218.

FHP says the crash occurred at around 6 a.m. and involved an SUV from Ft. Collins City, Colorado, a van from Ontario, Canada and a concrete pump truck from Gainesville, Florida.

Preliminary investigations revealed that all three vehicles were headed northbound on US 301. The concrete pump truck and the van were accelerating from a traffic signal.

The concrete pump truck collided with the back of the van, which forced it into the rear of the SUV up ahead.

A 13-year-old girl and a 10-year-old girl riding in the van were pronounced dead at the scene.

The remaining two children and adults in the vehicle were transported to local hospitals with severe injuries by Clay County Fire and Rescue, as well as Jacksonville Fire and Rescue, who was called in to assist.

The family in the SUV was also transported to a hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the concrete truck was uninjured.
