St. Marys, Ga. — This is a developing story. Action News Jax will update this article as more information becomes available.

Officers with the St. Marys Police Department (SMPD) said they’ve arrested a man in connection to a road rage incident that ended in a shooting near St. Marys Middle School Tuesday.

At approximately 12:36 p.m., officers responded to a Circle K gas station on Osborne Rd. for what was first described as a car crash with injuries. While on the way to the scene, officers say they learned a person had now been shot and was lying in the middle of the road.

Upon arrival, SMPD said two vehicles were found in the southbound lane of Martha Drive, and a man lying in the roadway with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Investigators say a beige Ford F-150 was seen traveling south on Martha Dr, followed by a gray Mercury Marque. Both vehicles were being driven by white males, according to a report.

Officers say the driver of the Marque left his vehicle and approached the driver of the Ford truck. After the driver of the F-150 got out of his truck, a verbal argument ensued between the two men. At some point during the argument, officers say a gun shot was heard and the driver of the Marque was seen falling to the ground.

The shooter, identified as 39-year-old Tommy Harrison, of Folkston, was taken into custody for aggravated assault and transported to the Camden Jail for incarceration, police say.

Officers say the victim, 38-year-old, Stewart Unangst, of St Marys, was transported to Southeast Georgia Health System Camden Campus, then to Shands Jacksonville via Trauma One Life Flight.

SMPD says the investigation is still ongoing.
