Man dead after colliding with a fence inside Jacksonville retirement community

Early Sunday morning, around 4:30 a.m., a resident of a senior apartment facility, located at 6701 Chester Avenue, checked in with the guard at the guard shack before driving a quarter mile inside the private property and colliding with a fence.


As result, the driver was pronounced deceased. The driver was in his eighties, and he was the only occupant in the Nissan Sentra.

No one else was involved or injured. At this time, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has traffic homicide detectives along with the Medical Examiner’s Office working together to determine the cause of death.

This marks the 88th traffic fatality in Duval County this year. JSO says that vehicular traffic has not been impeded by this incident
