JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 35-year-old man has been arrested on a murder charge in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in May. Mark Mulliens was arrested in the death of 28-year-old Jarrius Brown, who was shot during an incident at a home on Mayfair Road near Beach Boulevard on May 17.
District one Patrol officers responded to the scene on Mayfair Road after receiving reports of a shooting. Officers found Brown suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Detectives with the Homicide Unit investigated the shooting and determined that Brown had been involved in a fight with Mulliens that afternoon, Jacksonville police said. After shooting Brown, Mulliens left the scene, police said.
Investigators used surveillance camera footage and witness statements to identify Mulliens as a suspect, police said.
Mulliens is a convicted felon who has served four prison sentences for drug trafficking and armed robbery convictions, police said. Ten days after the shooting, detectives arrested Mulliens on a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon while continuing to build the murder case against him.
Mulliens has remained in custody at the Duval County jail on the firearm charge since May. Detectives formally arrested him on the murder charge following the investigation, police said.
