JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Duval County jury found Joseph Anderson guilty of murder for a 2025 killing of an ex-girlfriend on the day the woman sought an injunction against him.
A news release from State Attorney Melissa Nelson said Anderson now faces up to life in prison. A sentencing date has yet to be set.
In November, the victim’s body was found in her bedroom in a boarding house where she lived with her mother. The medical examiner ruled blunt force trauma as the cause of death.
According to a police investigation, the victim and Anderson were in a relationship before the victim moved to Jacksonville around 2022. In February 2025, Anderson moved to Jacksonville into the same boarding house.
A few weeks before the murder, Anderson discovered the victim was in a new relationship, prompting the victim to obtain an injunction against him.
On November 17, the day the victim and Anderson were scheduled for a court hearing on the injunction, the landlord found the victim dead behind her locked bedroom door.
