A man convicted of murdering his girlfriend was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison.
Courtney Lamar Davis was found guilty of murdering his 22-year-old girlfriend and dumping her body in a dumpster in Jacksonville in 2015.
Officers began investigating the murder on March 26, 2015. Davis' father called 911 and told officers that his son had confessed to the crime.
Davis and Foote were together for about three years and had lived in Jacksonville for about eight months, police said.
JSO said Foote's body was put in a dumpster off Dunn Avenue. Detectives searched the Trail Ridge landfill for her remains, but did not find her body.
Foote's mother Serena Williams spoke at Davis' sentencing hearing.
She said Foote, who was full of life, will never get to see her brother and sister grow up.
"Every morning when I wake up I think of my daughter," Williams said. "There is a hole in our family."
Davis has 30 days to appeal the sentence.
