Man and woman in carjacked Camaro captured in Putnam County

SAN MATEO, Fla. — The search for a South Carolina man and woman came to an end this week after they were captured in Putnam County.

According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, on Thursday, Nov. 11, deputies were alerted to a stolen red Camaro out of South Carolina that could be entering San Mateo, located southeast of Palatka. The Camaro had been stopped by Florida Highway Patrol in Volusia County the night before and had gotten away— but not before the trooper learned the car had been stolen during a carjacking hundreds of miles away.

The Camaro was located at a gas station near the intersection of US-17 and SR-100 where deputies say they were able to successfully pull the vehicle over.

The driver was identified as Curtis Dwight Thompkins, 23, of South Carolina.

His front passenger, also from South Carolina, was identified as 21-year-old Shaquanna Satterwhite, who troopers say was behind the wheel at the time of the traffic stop in Volusia County. She was taken into custody by FHP and transported to Volusia County.

A third passenger, who detectives say offered a false name and claimed to be 21-years-old, was identified as a missing juvenile from North Carolina. A Department of Children and Families employee traveled with the teen to Savannah, Ga. where she could be reunited with her mother.

A fourth passenger was identified as Sydney Reed, of Longwood, Fla. Reed is charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Thompkins was arrested and charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle and interfering with the custody of a minor. He is also facing multiple charges in South Carolina for carjacking the Camaro’s owner at gunpoint, according to court records.
