Testimony continued Wednesday in the death penalty trial of Mark Wilson in Putnam County. Wilson is accused of stabbing Robert Baker, 12 and Tayten Baker, 14, in August 2020.

Wilson’s mother, Chrissy Adkins, recounted in court what she leaned the morning after the boys’ murders. The defendant and his girlfriend stayed at her home the night of the crime.

Adkins said she went into the bathroom to talk to her son.

”You need to cooperate and talk to these people. You need to take a lying detecting test and you need to clear your name,” testified Adkins.

It was in that moment Wilson told his mother he couldn’t do that. She then asked him the hardest question.

“I said, why Mark? Did you hurt those babies?” testified Adkins. “Mark’s arm went straight down, his head went sideways and in a voice that was not his own, he said, ‘Yes mom, I did it.’”

Adkins told jurors she confirmed it again while walking with her son outside because she couldn’t believe it. She then said she went to law enforcement to alert them.

During the course of conversation with detectives, Adkins said she agreed to wear a wire in order to get her son’s confession recorded. That is where they learned more about the defendant’s plan to kill more family members

.Jurors also got to see video recording of sheriff’s deputies questioning Wilson after he was taken into custody.
