Mysterious circumstances surround disappearance of Clay County woman missing for weeks

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — Susan Mauldin was last seen Oct. 23 and reported missing to the Clay County Sheriffs Office Oct. 24.

Two days later, the public was alerted by the Sheriff's Office to be on the lookout for the 65-year-old but said they did not believe she was in danger at the time.

Six days later, on Nov. 1, the Sheriff's Office said they believed Mauldin could be in danger.
Action News Jax asked the CCSO about Mauldin's case on Nov. 4. They said they were still actively searching for her.

More than two weeks went by, and there is no mention of Mauldin's disappearance case by the Sheriff's Office until Nov. 19, when it announced Corey Binderim as a person of interest in Mauldin's case.

Police say Binderim was working on Mauldin's bathroom, but Mauldin fired Binderim and requested her money back.

Action News Jax found Binderim isn't licensed to work as a contractor in Florida.

Mauldin's close friend, Patricia Ritchie, said Mauldin had complained about Bindermin and had planned to meet to get her money back.

"She came and told us she was going to meet him, and we didn't see her again." Ritchie said.

CCSO said Binderim was cooperating but has not been seen since Nov. 12, and a search warrant was served on his home Nov. 8.

Action News Jax also found Bindermin has a troubled past, and he served 10 years probation for a 1992 aggravated battery case.
