Neighbors in Southwood concerned after reports of car break-ins

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Neighbors in the Southwood area of Jacksonville are worried after reports of recent car break-ins.

Neighbors Action News Jax spoke with residents that said this neighborhood used to be very peaceful with no disturbances. But now they’ve seen more police activity right outside their doors.

“This is a nice neighborhood, and everyone knows each other. I mean we would know who’s coming in and who’s coming out,” neighbor Analuisa Miller said.

Miller has lived in the Southwood neighborhood for 22 years. She said she seen a greater police presence in her neighborhood after a drug overdose across the street and now car break-in’s.

“You know there’s a little bit of fear and awareness needs to happen,” Miller said.

Action News Jax checked the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office crime map. There were two car break-ins within a mile of Bald Eagle Lane in the last week. We also received surveillance video showing two people walking away from neighbor Beth Bess’ driveway around 4 a.m. on Tuesday.

Action News Jax spoke with another neighbor who said grandson’s truck was broken into about 5 days ago, one street over from Bald Eagle Lane. “It makes me just nervous,” neighbor Anna Gaudet said.

Gaudet said were items taken out of the car- but does not know exactly what was taken and said there was no damage to the car.

“I’m hoping that maybe this weekend we can kind of gather some people and say hey what are we going to do, what can we do,” Miller said. “We have to have more awareness in our neighborhood and just hope for the best.”
