JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — No running water is a high-priority violation that means an automatic closure of a restaurant, and it was the reason two restaurants were closed this week.
Action News Jax anchor Romney Smith visited the Sushi Factory on Philips Highway. A health inspector found no running water in the restaurant, no time markings on fish by the fryer and a blackish-green mold-like substance in the ice machine. It was shut down by a health inspector.
Turns out, the entire area lost water due to a water main accident with a construction crew. As soon as water was restored, the Sushi Factory was allowed to reopen.
The McDonald’s on Bonneval Road is in a complex adjacent to the Sushi Factory and also lost water due to a water main break. A health inspector noted food being served with no running water and forced it to close. The inspector also cited a raw steak stored over ready-to-eat egg patties and a blackish-green mold-like substance on soda nozzles.
The McDonald's was allowed to reopen for business when the water main break was fixed.
More than six other restaurants in the complex were also closed for business due to the water main accident. But they weren’t due for an inspection so they aren’t on the restaurant report.
At Big Oak BBQ on Dunn Avenue, a health inspector saw a live fly in the kitchen, issued a stop sale on ranch dressing and noticed that food was re-served to customers. A follow-up inspection is required.
