Northeast Florida community pools found by the Florida Department of Health to have violations

Almost two dozen pools across Northeast Florida were shut down by the health department.

Action News Jax has learned that the Florida Department of Health found violations serious enough to close pools in apartment complexes and neighborhoods.

Five pools on that list are community pools.

The report lists the neighborhood pools that have multiple violations. Neighbors we spoke to say they’re disappointed by the news.

Seventeen pools were listed in this report, all with violations, according to the Florida Department of Health.

The report states most of these pools are inside apartment complexes.

Windsor Chase, Tamaya Amenity Center, Adams Lake pool and Thomas Jefferson pool are the four community pools with multiple violations.

“We go there all the time. During the summertime, we stay down there,” said neighbor Josh Hester, who lives just down the street from the Thomas Jefferson pool.

He said his kids are waiting for the pool to open back up for the summer.

“They ask me every day. They’re like, ‘When’s the pool? When’s the pool?’” Hester said.

Action News Jax uncovered the top three pools with big violations. The Thomas Jefferson pool has violations including incorrect chlorine and pH levels. The report states Windsor Chase has other violations not listed in this report and the Tamaya Amenity Center had pool equipment that didn’t pass inspection.

“That’s pretty heartbreaking,” Hester said. “I think high chlorine levels is something that’s easily fixed.”
