PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — Officials are investigating a shrapnel shell found at a landfill Monday in Putnam County.
Officials responded around 5 p.m. to the Putnam County Central Landfill in Palatka when an employee spotted the device.
The officials checked with military personnel, and did an X-ray of the device to confirm that it was a shrapnel shell, which contained shrapnel. The device did not have a fuse to detonate it, said the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.
The device was moved to a remote location where officials around 10:45 p.m. detonated it.
It has not known who left the device.
