Parent on dentist accused of hurting kids: 'We should keep the peace and let the justice system deal with him'

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Nearly 100 parents packed an emotional town hall meeting Wednesday with questions about Dr. Howard Schneider.

For three weeks, the same parents have been protesting outside his Southside office, demanding the pediatric dentist shut down his practice.

Parents accuse Schneider of performing unnecessary and damaging work on their kids over the course of his 49-year career.

Action News was the first to tell you that the Attorney's General's Office is investigating Schneider for Medicaid fraud. According to the state, he has received nearly $4 million in Medicaid payments since 2010.

Schneider denied any wrongdoing when questioned outside his Riverside home in April.

"I'm pissed off," he told Action News. "I'm a good dentist. I do nothing wrong. I give these kids the best treatment. Somebody started a deal and they're preying on it, and I'm tired of it."

His comments outraged many parents, and on Wednesday, local attorneys and dental abuse experts came together to calm the crowd.

"We should keep the peace and let the justice system deal with him," said parent Marlesa Bravil.

Protestors say they won't stop until Schneider's doors are shut. As of Wednesday afternoon, his office remained open.

On Wednesday, officials with Wolfson Children's Hospital confirmed that Schneider resigned from their medical staff via a letter sent May 5. The details contained in that letter were not released.
