Petition calls for nude sunbathing in Jacksonville Beach

A petition is circling to have a section of Jacksonville Beach reserved for nude sunbathing.

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. — A petition for a nude section of Jacksonville Beach is making waves online.

The petition, launched on change.org by Angela Anderson, calls for a one-mile portion of the beach to be reserved for sunbathing where "clothing is optional."

"The practice of nudism is purposely nonsexual," wrote Anderson on her petition. "It serves as a personal comfort and a stronger sense of freedom. There is the belief that nudism helps with self-esteem, relaxation, and overall well-being."

Jacksonville Beach Mayor Charlie Latham is clearly against it.

"I'm not personally in favor of it and I haven't talked to my colleagues on city council so I don't know how they feel but to me it just doesn't meet the family friendly image we're looking for," said Latham.
