ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — Police have identified the victim in a deadly St. Augustine shooting that led to a police chase and lockdown of local schools.
Thirty-six-year-old Carl Starke, of St. Augustine, was shot and killed Tuesday night at the Vista Cove Condos.
Three suspects are in custody as persons of interest in the shooting. They were caught after a manhunt that locked down six schools.
On Wednesday afternoon in St. Augustine, police chased the suspect's vehicle. The chase started after a St. Johns County Sheriff's Office deputy spotted a stolen car believed to have been involved in Tuesday night's deadly shooting.
The chase began around 1 p.m. and ended a few minutes later when the car crashed into woods near Ravenswood Drive and W. Jacey Way.
"Three individuals left that vehicle and fled on foot. One was immediately captured by deputies at that time,"
SJSO Cmdr. Chuck Mulligan said.
Backup was called to search the woods for the two other suspects. Canine units helped on the ground, as well as a chopper in the air. The two suspects were caught a little over an hour later. All three are now in custody and are considered persons of interest in the shooting of Starke at the Vista Cove Condos.

"I was out walking the dog and suddenly I heard bang, bang, bang like that," a resident of Vista Cove said.
Wednesday morning investigators searched for clues near the area where the shooting happened, working to try to figure out what happened.
"I was mortified, I was just -- my heart just broke for this poor man," a resident of Vista Cove said.
During the manhunt six nearby schools were put on lockdown as a precaution. The schools were The Webster School, St. Augustine High School, Sebastian Middle School, Murray Middle School, Crookshank Elementary and St. Johns Tech.
SJSO said over 7,000 homes were contacted to let parents know about the situation.
The Sheriff's Office also called in extra officers, including deputies in training. They were placed at the local schools to add extra protection in case the suspects made their way there.
Ruth Spurlock said it was a scary situation for local parents.
"At first we didn't know what was going on, just that the schools were on lockdown, and then finding out that it had something to do with the shooting victim at Vista Cove -- so yes, it's scary," Spurlock said.
The lockdown ended around 2 p.m. and dismissal was started for the six schools.
