LAKE CITY, Fla. — Police are investigating a homicide after a 23-year-old woman was found dead in her Lake City apartment Sunday.
The Lake City Police Department responded around 3 p.m. Sunday to the 800 block of SE Church Avenue, near the Hillside Apartments.
Police said the victim is 23-year-old Kharah Norman.
“We have since ruled that death as a homicide and we’re currently investigating that,” Lake City Police Department Public Information Officer Mike Lee said.
“I’m just devastated really,” Ollie Shelton said.
Shelton is a caregiver for Norman’s neighbor and said she would see Norman time to time at her job at a local Bealls Outlet store.

“She was real smart,” Shelton said. “She worked hard and I don’t, it just shocked me to death."
Shelton said she believed Norman was discovered after she failed to show up for work.
“One of the workers came over to check on her because she never missed work,” Shelton said. “She’d never be late. So they came over and that’s what they found.”
Officials with LCPD’s Criminal Investigative Division are working with the State Attorney’s Office to determine the cause of death and identify potential suspects.
A forensic team from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is assisting with the crime scene investigation.
