JSO: Man kills ex-wife's new boyfriend

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — U.S. Marshals helped officers track down and arrest a Jacksonville man who opened fire on a vehicle with his child, ex-wife and her new lover inside in February.

Police said Juan Carlos Lopez, 33, was hit by a bullet at a Westside intersection Feb. 27.

Police said Lopez's girlfriend was in the driver seat and her toddler, brother and boyfriend were inside the car when her ex-husband Anderson Nieves, 33, opened fire on their vehicle.

Lopez's girlfriend tried to flee and hit a car that was not involved in the shooting.

Their vehicle ended up in a ditch. Witnesses tried to give Lopez CPR but he died from his injuries at the hospital.

Officers said Nieves fled to South Florida and was arrested March 2 with help from U.S. Marshals.

Police said it appears he had been following the car his ex was driving. The two have four children together.

Police said she and her brother were able to identify Nieves. Police said he will be brought to Jacksonville and charged with one count of murder.
