Popular Landing restaurant closed for roaches

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Four restaurants were temporarily shut down, and all had roaches.

Health inspectors temporarily closed Fionn MacCool’s Irish Pub & Restaurant in the Jacksonville Landing after finding 20 live roaches, dead roaches in the kitchen and small flies. There were no food temperature violations or issues noted during the inspection.

Paul Glaser said the restaurant gets pest control services twice a month.

“We were very compliant on everything else. There’s a couple bugs that came out of a crack in the wall, so we sealed up the wall. We took care of everything we had to and we were open within two hours,” said Glaser.

Fionn MacCool’s will also have a pest control fogging on Tuesday morning.

Health inspectors shut down another restaurant in the Jacksonville Landing, the Village Bread Café.

Health inspectors saw 12 live roaches in the kitchen, dead roaches and live flies between the bar and kitchen. Village Bread Café was shut down for one night and needed two more inspections before being allowed to reopen.

At Bella Vita on Baymeadows Road, health inspectors saw 12 live roaches, dead roaches in the kitchen and buckets of pizza sauce left uncovered in the cooler. The eatery was temporarily shut down and during a follow-up inspection more roaches were documented.

Bella Vita was back in business after the third health inspection.

Gene's Seafood at University Boulevard was temporarily shut down for having more than 20 roaches in the bar area, dead roaches in traps, and the ice bin under the soda machine had a black mold-like substance.
