Putnam County deputies: 1 killed, 2 in custody after shooting

One person is dead and two other people are in custody after a shooting in Putnam County.

Putnam County Sheriff Gator DeLoach said deputies got several phone calls about gunfire near a home on Marion Avenue around 7 p.m. Monday.

Deputies said gunfire was exchanged after an altercation between people at the home and several others who pulled up in a car.

Deputies found one person dead inside a car near the home. Deputies were told two men fled the scene.

The two men were taken into custody nearby after a search by a St. Johns County Sheriff's Office helicopter and Putnam County K-9 units.

Deputies said the SJSO helicopter also helped locate a suspicious vehicle in the area that was believed to have been there to pick up the fleeing men.

One of the men taken into custody had a gunshot wound, according to DeLoach. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

The name of the victim has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
