Regency Square owners exploring redevelopment

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Shoppers are scarce at Regency Square Mall and there are even fewer tenants.

Earlier in February, there were reports of a possible auction and a push for new vendors at the mall.

Shoppers told Action News Jax they heard rumors about the mall being sold.

Reporter Beth Rousseau reached out to the owner, Mason Asset Management.

The company’s president sent an email response which said, “We are exploring all option(s) for the site as a redevelopment.”

The district’s councilwoman, Joyce Morgan, said, “If they were to sell it I believe that somebody else with a vision could come in and maybe do something totally different.”

Morgan explained she liked the idea of a sale and even had her own idea about what would make a good fit for the location.

“JEA could go there. There’s plenty of parking, all the amenities that you would need – plenty of restaurants around that area," she said.

Shoppers said they’d just like to see some progress soon.

“If they could get that, churches, school a lot of different events going on but mostly shopping." Otis Haford said. "I just want some good ol’ shopping.”

Action News Jax made multiple calls and sent several emails asking for clarification about what redevelopment would entail, but the owners have not responded.
