JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Museum of Science & History released updated exterior renderings Tuesday for its planned facility on Downtown Jacksonville’s Northbank. The new images highlight updated architectural details for the building’s façade as preconstruction planning continues.
The projected five-story facility will total 125,000 square feet along the riverfront, according to a news release. Plans for the new building feature 10 exhibits spanning 50,000 square feet, along with a café and dedicated space for community programming and events.
The museum partnered with architecture firm SmithGroup to develop the design. SmithGroup’s project portfolio includes the National Museum of African American History & Culture, The Franklin Institute, the Wisconsin History Center and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
Museum officials submitted the renderings to the Downtown Investment Authority for review. Design and engineering teams continue to refine building structure, exterior design, interior spaces, site connections, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems and life-safety requirements.
Upon receiving approval, the project team plans to finalize 100 percent of the construction documents later this year with groundbreaking for the new facility is expected in early 2027.
