Baylee Crowe, 18, is charged with written threats to kill, do bodily injury or conduct a mass shooting or act of terrorism, a second-degree felony, according to a release from the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

TRENDING:

Crowe, a senior at the school, was taken to a dean's office after deputies were notified of the possible threat. Youth resource officers asked Crowe if a sibling was involved in his social media post and Crowe said he would "kill all of you," according to the release.

Detectives later found that the photos of Crowe holding the guns were taken at a museum at Camp Blanding recently, and the guns were not in the student's possession or where he would have immediate accessibility to them.

PCSO said this is the second time deputies have had contact with Crowe at the school. In January, the sheriff's office said it forwarded a misdemeanor charge of possession of liquor by a person under 21 after Crowe was found with a crushed beer can in his backpack. Deputies said he admitted to drinking beer in class.

Crowe is being held in the Putnam County Jail without bond.

In an exclusive interview, Crowe’s family told Action News Jax a different story.

His great aunt, Ava Lewis, said she’s not excusing what he allegedly did, but she wants people to know his mental state and to watch this play out through the judicial process before passing judgement.

“He’s a good kid who’s had some pretty rough times, especially here lately,” Lewis said.

A high school senior, Lewis said Crowe had dreams of joining the Marine Corps after graduation in a few weeks.

“(I want him to know) that I love him and I’m there for him,” Lewis said.  “Whatever it takes, (I’m) behind him 100%.”

Crowe is scheduled to make a first appearance in court on Friday. Family said they’ll be there.

PCSO had this statement in its release:

"Our mission continues to be providing a safe, learning environment for our students. We take this charge seriously and will continue to provide any method necessary to protect our youth.

"We encourage all parents and guardians to talk to their students about the seriousness of making a threat to a school campus and the repercussions of making a threat."

The agency also emphasized that the charge Crowe is facing is based on the written threat in the post:

"We would like to stress that the charge is based on the suspect making a written threat, which it is why we want to encourage parents and guardians to have an open dialogue with their students on the seriousness of actions such as these. We want to thank the Putnam County School District for their continued support."
