JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — In this week’s original Restaurant Report, Action News Jax's Ben Becker visited Biggie’s Pizza Jacksonville Beach after their recent health inspection.
Inspectors found the following at the restaurant located on 3rd Street North and 13th Street North:
- 46 rodent droppings in the kitchen
- Non-food contact equipment in poor repair
- Encrusted food debris on a mixer head
The pizza place was temporarily closed. About 15 minutes after Becker arrived at the restaurant, the owner arrived. She told Becker all of the issues will be looked into and the inspection was a “big wake up call.”
Elsewhere, Panera Bread on Old St. Augustine Road near Bartram Park Boulevard was cited for:
- Potentially hazardous food temperatures
- A mold-like substance in a coffee machine
- A microwave soiled with encrusted food debris
Inspectors say Orange Buffet on Blanding Boulevard near Belmont Blvd. had:
- Potentially hazardous food temperatures
- Encrusted material on a can opener blade
- Food stored on the floor
The St. George Inn at St. George Street and Orange Street was cited for:
- Potentially hazardous food temperatures
- Food not protected from contamination
- Manager lacking proof of certification
All restaurants mentioned have since passed follow-up inspections.
