Restaurant Report: Popular Jax Beach diner closed for health issues

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. — This week the three restaurants that topped our list all had cleaning issues.

Action News visited the 3rd Street Diner, in Jacksonville Beach. Management wasn't there to give a comment, but the health inspectors had a lot to say about its cleanliness. Inspectors found food with a mold-like growth, the dish machine had sanitizer that was too weak to clean, and 27 separate food items were too warm to serve customers. The diner was temporarily shut down for one day. A follow-up inspection still showed issues, so a third inspection was done for the establishment to get a clean report.

The Waffle House on Commonwealth Avenue had an issue with its waffle mix being held at the wrong temperature.  The health inspector required employees to wash all dishes by hand after discovering the dish machine didn’t work. They also found a blackish-green mold-like substance in the ice machine. Waffle House was visited by inspectors two more times before being given a clean report.

At Nana’s Best Southern Cuisine, on Blanding Boulevard, a health inspector saw employees touching ready-to-eat food with their bare hands, some equipment and utensils weren’t properly sanitized and bacon and several pies were being held too warm.
