Restaurant Report visits New China

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — This week, Action News visited a restaurant manager who was all too happy to prove they shouldn't be on our list.

New China on Argyle Forest Boulevard tops the list of restaurants with high-priority violations. Health inspectors observed multiple violations, including food being stored in nonfood-grade containers, employees not washing their hands and switching from raw to cooked food and temperature violations where cold food items got too hot.

The manager, Mike Lin, let Action News look around the kitchen to prove his business is clean and told us he's confident in their ability to stay clean.

"We've been there about a year. We didn't see any customers that complained, you know, we do really well," said Lin.

The Crab Trap in Fernandina Beach received several warnings for violations, including no hot water or soap at the employee hand wash sink, a blackish-green mold-like substance in the ice machine, and clam, mussel and oyster tags not marked with the last date served.

Mojo's Taco's in St. Augustine had 23 violations including food being prepared outside, a mold-like slime in the drink machine ice chute and food temperature abuse for both hot and cold items.
