JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — River City Science Academy announced today it received permit approvals for construction of a new standalone high school on Beach Boulevard.
“Big news!” a post on Facebook said. “The future home of RCSA High School is officially taking shape!”
The charter school, which opened its first location in Jacksonville in 2007, will now begin site preparation and cleanup on a schedule to open the new high school for the 2027-28 academic year.
Located at the Florida State College at Jacksonville South Campus, the new high school will join a middle-high school River City Science Academy operates at 7565 Beach Boulevard.
It has an elementary school at 7450 Beach Boulevard and K-8 schools on Baymeadows Way, San Pablo Road, at 10911 St. Augustine Road and at 12397 Philips Highway.
Combined, the schools enroll more than 5,000 students, according to its website.
The new school “is being designed to give even more RCSA students the opportunity to continue their journey with us through graduation,” the Facebook post said.
The school will offer early college and dual-enrollment, Advanced Placement (AP) courses, expanded STEM programs, career and technical education pathways, and what the school described in the post as “expanded athletics.”
The school will offer virtual information sessions in October, including special sessions 8th-graders and families interested in advancing to the school.
