GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. — The Glynn County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about a scheme targeting family members of recently arrested individuals.
According to the sheriff’s office, callers claim an inmate can be released on a pre-trial release order signed by a judge if a payment is made. Scammers may also claim that fees are required for ankle monitors or placement in a treatment facility before an inmate can be moved.

Law enforcement agencies emphasize that no legitimate court or detention facility will ever demand money for someone’s release. Bond is set at a predetermined amount and law enforcement officials will never negotiate payment amounts.
Detention centers and courts do not accept payment through instant transfer services or digital currencies. Payment methods such as Cash App, Zelle, PayPal, Bitcoin, cryptocurrency and gift cards are not accepted by official agencies.
The sheriff’s office warned that scammers are using sophisticated tactics to appear authentic. Fraudsters may use real names, personal details and inside information about cases, court proceedings or family members.
They also frequently spoof phone numbers so incoming calls appear to come directly from the jail or courthouse.

Authorities advise anyone receiving a suspicious call or email to hang up immediately without sending money or providing personal details.
To verify an inmate’s status or payment requirements, residents should independently call the Glynn County Detention Center at 912-554-7600.
