JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — U.S. Sen. Ashley Moody (R-Fla.) will not take part in a debate Action News Jax was planning.
It was something we were working on with the University of North Florida.

This comes one day after her Democratic opponent, State Rep. Angie Nixon confirmed she would debate Moody.
After we reached out to Moody’s campaign repeatedly to confirm if she’d be debating, a spokesperson sent us this audio from a recent interview:
“I’m running against someone who is truly anti-American and is a Democrat Socialist. And as I’ve seen what she says when she takes the stage, which is quote the Communist Manifesto, and quote cop killers, as the wife of a law enforcement officer and someone who has in many roles as a judge and prosecutor defended our constitution and fought against big government, I’m not going to give a stage or any attention to that.”

After Nixon learned Moody wouldn’t be taking part in the debate, she released the following statement:
“Unelected Ashley Moody’s unhinged rhetoric and refusal to debate isn’t strength; it’s pure cowardice. Runaway Ashley is dodging this debate because she’s terrified of the millions of Floridians across this state who are sick and tired of her corporate corruption and refusal to actually work for the people of Florida.
“The only people Moody listens to are the insurance executives and extremist DC donors lining her pockets. She knows I’m running to actually deliver for working Florida families – lowering rent, slashing property insurance rates, getting healthcare and childcare for all, and so much more. It’s a vision she could never deliver on because she’s too busy hiding from the $10 million in healthcare money she helped steal from sick kids, and apparently also hiding from me.
“If Ashley Moody’s too weak to step on a debate stage and answer to the working-class voters who built this state, she’s too weak to represent and fight for Floridians in the U.S. Senate.”
