ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — Sen. Ashley Moody stopped at Sonny’s BBQ in St. Johns County on Tuesday as Election Day approaches and early voting begins in many parts of Northeast Florida.
During the stop, Action News Jax asked Moody about affordability and what she would do at the federal level to help lower the cost of groceries, gas and diesel fuel for Floridians.
A recent Pew Research study found the economy is the top issue for voters nationwide heading into the midterm elections.
Moody pointed to the Ratepayer Protection Act, which she said would help protect consumers and small businesses from higher electric bills.
“I am a co-sponsor of the Ratepayer Protection Act, which is to shield consumers and small businesses from higher electric bills due to large data centers and other. It passed the House 417-3. It came over to the Senate. We pushed for that, and it got blocked by the Democrats. So that’s one thing that I’ll stay on and keep pushing forward,” Moody said.
Action News Jax also asked Moody whether she agreed with President Donald Trump’s recent executive order lifting sanctions on Russia to help ease prices at the gas pump, particularly for diesel fuel.
Moody did not directly answer the question.
“We’re examining everything that’s being proposed and I think it’s important that they keep doing what they’re doing and pressing to bring relief to working families,” Moody said.
Action News Jax reached out to Moody’s Democratic challenger, Angie Nixon, with the same questions and had not received a response at the time of publication.
Moody also confirmed she will join Trump in South Florida during his midterm rally on Friday.
