Shelter to open in Jacksonville Beach for homeless population as temperatures expected to dip

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. — The Jacksonville Beaches homeless population will have a warm place to spend the holidays.

Thanks to St. Paul’s by the Sea Episcopal Church in coordination with other Jacksonville Beach churches, and the Jacksonville Beach Police Department, an overnight shelter and hot meals will be provided to those in need.

The temporary sleeping areas on the St. Paul’s by the Sea campus will open their doors at 12 p.m., Friday, Dec. 23. They will stay open through Monday, Dec. 26 at 12 p.m.

The Beaches community cold night shelter is coordinated in conjunction with Mission House in Jacksonville Beach. This facility regularly provides day shelter, food, clothing and medical care to the Beaches homeless residents.

The cold night shelter opening on Friday will be in St. Paul’s by the Sea’s Stormes Hall at 1150 N. 5th St., Jacksonville Beach, Fl.

According to St. Paul’s by the Sea Episcopal Church, “A hot meal will be served every evening, and a light breakfast will also be provided the following morning. Winter coats and jackets, which have been donated by the local community, will also be distributed.”

The statement also said that right after dinner, guests will be provided a safe place to sleep for the evening.
