Publix now offering home delivery in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. — A new app called "Shipt" will now let Publix customers order groceries and have them delivered to directly to their homes.

The service kicks off in central Florida Saturday.

The app allows users to buy their groceries, including the popular Publix subs, from their smartphone.

The order then goes out to one of roughly 200 delivery drivers covering a service area from Deltona to Davenport.

There's no maximum to the number of times you can order, though an extra fee is added to orders under $35.

If part of your order isn't available, the drivers can text the customer with possible substitutions. They've even been trained on how to pick out produce.

The service will be available for Orange, Seminole and Osceola counties.

Shipt has a library of more than 40,000 items from Publix grocery stores to choose from.

The service isn’t free, however. A membership will cost customers $99 a year or a monthly fee of $14.

Prior to the Sept. 5 launch, customers can get a year membership for $49.

Shipt started Publix delivery service in Tampa and South Florida in July.
