Six restaurants closed for health violations

Health inspectors closed down six restaurants down for violations in the Restaurant Report.

Cassat's Batt Bowl on Cassat Avenue was temporarily shut down for a couple of days after an inspector found 100 rodent droppings in the kitchen, 25 live roaches and 135 dead roaches. The restaurant continued to have pest control issues, but after four follow-up inspections it was finally allowed to reopen.

At the Hardee's on Normandy Boulevard, an inspector saw sewage or wastewater backing up through the floor drains, frozen chicken patties that weren't covered in the freezer and saw no soap at the hand wash sink. Hardee's was temporarily closed, but reopened a few hours later after a follow-up inspection.

An inspectors closed Corner Bistro and Wine Bar in Tapestry Park. The inspector saw 23 live roaches, dead roaches and a blackish-green mold-like substance in the ice bin. It was temporarily closed and reopened after two inspections.

At China Café in Middleburg, an inspector saw 15 live roaches, dead roaches and rice and chicken held too cold. It was temporarily closed and reopened after its next inspection.

A health inspector visited Jax What’s Cookin’ on Lane Avenue. The inspector saw 15 live roaches, dead roaches and observed an employee touching ready-to-eat food with bare hands. It reopened after a follow-up inspection.

New Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffet in Jacksonville received violations from inspectors. The health inspector counted 20 live roaches, saw dead roaches, and food violation of eggs being stored over vegetables in the fridge. The restaurant had three follow-up inspections, and after the last it was allowed to reopen for business.
