Small plane lands on the beach in St. Johns County

Efforts are under way in St. Johns County to remove a plane that unexpectedly landed on the beach in the southern part of the county.

The single-engine plane, marked “Embry-Riddle” on the tail, will have to be moved before high tide later in the day, authorities said. According to Flight Aware, the plane is a 2015 Cessna 172S.

The pilot was the only person on board, authorities said, and the plane wasn't damaged. The plane had an engine malfunction, the school said.

“Our flight instructor did exactly what he teaches his students to do in case of an emergency," the school said.

Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University is a private school in nearby Daytona Beach.
