ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — St. Johns County will host a public town hall on Proposed Property Tax Amendment 3 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. this Tuesday, Sept. 29.
The meeting will take place at the St. Johns County Auditorium in St. Augustine to provide information on how the measure could affect county revenues and the local budget.
The proposed constitutional amendment will appear on the ballot for Florida voters this fall. If approved, the measure would increase the homestead exemption for qualifying properties, lower the assessment cap on most non-homestead properties and establish new residency rules for the expanded exemption.
County Administrator Joy Andrews will lead the presentation alongside Wade Schroeder, director of the St. Johns County Office of Management and Budget. Schroeder will outline details regarding potential financial impacts on local government operations.
Estimates from the Florida Office of Economic and Demographic Research indicate St. Johns County could experience property tax revenue reductions of approximately $68.3 million in fiscal year 2028. Projected revenue reductions could reach $136.1 million in fiscal year 2029 and $191.6 million annually by fiscal year 2032.
County officials began reviewing services, staffing, contracts, capital projects, fees and funding sources in May to prepare for potential fiscal changes.
The meeting at 500 San Sebastian View will be broadcast live on GovTV, Facebook and YouTube, with a video recording published to those platforms after the event.
Residents can submit questions in advance through the county’s online form until 5 p.m. this Monday, Sept. 28.
Any submitted questions not addressed during the live presentation will be answered and posted on the county’s official website following the event.
