Troopers: 2 dead after head-on crash in St. Johns County

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — Two people are dead following a head-on crash in St. Johns County overnight.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the deadly crash happened just before 1:30 a.m. Monday on State Road A1A (South Ponte Vedra Boulevard) south of Ponte Vedra Beach.

A white Ford van was traveling south on SR-A1A when troopers said it crossed over to the northbound lane hitting a gray Honda Element.

Both drivers died at the scene.

FHP said the 42-year-old Ohio man, who was driving the van, did not have a seat belt on.

The other driver, a 29-year-old Atlantic Beach man, was wearing a seat belt.

All lanes in the area were closed but have since reopened.
