Woodpeckers Backyard BBQ in St. Augustine named best ‘Bucket-List Barbecue’ in Florida

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — A barbecue joint in St. Augustine is receiving praise from a website that’s been called “a Consumer Reports for the cheap.”

Cheapism has named Woodpeckers Backyard BBQ as the Florida entry for its “Bucket-List Barbecue in Every State” list.

The article praises Woodpeckers’ actual backyard atmosphere, where customers can hang out and toss a frisbee.

The restaurant, “serves up barbecued turkey, brisket, pork, ribs, and sausage with four sauces, including Alabama white sauce and a spicy version with datil peppers grown in St. Augustine,” the Cheapism article said.

Cheapism said it reports on consumer trends and deals for people it calls “Cheapists.”

“Not a cheapskate or a penny pincher — there is such a thing as being too frugal. You just don’t want to waste your money on cheap stuff that isn’t worth it,” Cheapism said on its About Us page.
