PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office is investigating after the near drowning of a 10-year-old girl at the Hilton Garden Inn in Ponte Vedra Beach on Saturday night.
The girl went to the pool with three other juvenile family members, SJSO found in its preliminary investigation. At this time, SJSO said, it appears that no adults were present at the time of the incident and the pool was closed to swimming.
The girl was pulled from the pool by two of her family members and the third family member ran to get help from a hotel employee. That employee also brought along another adult to help, SJSO said.
SJSO deputies responded to the hotel shortly before midnight and found CPR being performed on the girl. Deputies took over CPR and used an AED on the girl until rescue personnel arrived.
The girl was first taken to Baptist Medical Center Beaches and then taken to Wolfson Children's Hospital by air, in critical condition.
