State to decide if local dentist will give up license, avoid disciplinary action

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A local dentist will find out tomorrow if the state of Florida will allow him to give up his license and avoid disciplinary action from the Board of Dentistry.

Action News was the first to tell you about complaints against the pediatric dentist Dr. Howard Schneider in April.

He is accused of performing unnecessary and damaging work on children in his care.

If the board signs off on his relinquishment, it said Dr. Schneider will agree to never re-apply for any dentistry practice in the state of Florida.

That’s something Marlesa Brazil has been waiting to hear.

She is one of dozens of parents claiming Dr. Schneider mistreated her child.

“It’s a long process but everything is going to work out just fine,” said Brazil. “I really believe that.“

The state said the board can choose not to approve Schneider’s relinquishment. It has the option to enforce disciplinary action instead.

Action News will be at the hearing Friday and let you know what the state decides.
