Study finds that majority of baby foods tested contain toxic metals that could lower babies IQ

A new investigation by the nonprofit healthy babies bright future reveals in a study 95% of baby foods tested contain toxic chemicals that can lower IQ.

The study found arsenic, lead, cadmium, and mercury in dozens of the 168 baby food products tested, one in four baby foods contained all four metals.

Traces of lead were found in 94% of samples tested, and arsenic in 73% of samples tested.

HBBF tested 13 different types of foods in 168 baby food containers from 61 brands, including popular names such as Gerber, Beech-Nut, Earth's Best, Parents Choice and Enfamil. Of all the items tested, only 9 were found to have no toxic metals.

Kristen Head has a 9-month-old daughter, she makes her own food and will freeze some for busy days.

Health experts say having trace amounts of metals in their food can alter a child's developing brain.

For Kristen Head a local mom, she encourages other moms to think about making their own food because it takes less time than you may think.

Head said it's all about making it when you cook your own food.

"A lot of the food I'm making for the baby I'm already buying for me and my husband," Head said.

Since the study was released the top Democrat in the Senate is now calling on the FDA to investigate baby food.
