JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Sean Phoenix who murdered a transgender woman Erica Walker known as Celine Walker in 2018 apologized to her family today.

“To the victim’s family, I am truly sorry for what happened. I know you don’t want to hear any apologies because I can’t bring your child back… Every day I beat myself up for what happened to your child, if I could go back, I would have done things differently. I was just in a situation where I had to defend and protect myself.” Phoenix said via zoom from the Duval County Jail.

He entered a guilty plea in exchange for 35 years in prison.

The murder happened in February 2018 at a hotel off Skinner Lake Drive, police say not only did Phoenix admit to the murder but, sold the gun he used to get rid of the evidence.

It took more than a year for police to track phoenix down, they used DNA evidence and shell casings to make the arrest.
