Thousands of dollar's worth of items stolen from popular Mandarin marina

Thieves stole thousands of dollars’ worth items from a Mandarin marina and broke into several cars.

Surveillance video from Mandarin Holiday Marina shows a man walking toward the parking lot the same morning thousands of dollars’ worth of items were taken.

“The person was here for at least a couple hours. Of course, it was during the kind of night where no one was around,” office manager Paul Burns said.

The man is first seen without anything covering his face, but the second time he appears on camera, he is trying to conceal his identity.

“At first, he didn’t notice we had cameras and, after that, he put a hoodie on,” Burns said.

Burns said the thieves broke into the marina’s shed.

“Lost a commercial air compressor, a generator, a lot of mechanic’s tools and specialty tools for marina industry,” Burns said.

Several thousand dollars’ worth of tools were taken.

“We are still finding things that are missing as we are trying to use it,” Burns said.

The man is also caught on camera spilling stolen gas all over his truck.

“Gas came out of gas cans and he just emptied them into his vehicle,” Burns said.

Although cameras weren’t pointed toward the parking lot, Burns said at least six vehicles were burglarized.

“It hurts the working man,” Burns said.

Joseph Foley was one of the victims.

“It wasn’t until I got to the job site that I went to open up my tool box that everything was empty,” Foley said.

Everything needed for his fire protection job was gone.

“Just about just whatever was laying in the bottom of it, he didn’t get,” Foley said.

He estimates about $8,000 worth of tools were taken out of his locked toolbox.

“The locks on these toolboxes are meant for keeping the honest man honest. If someone wanted to get in, they can,” Foley said.

He believs the thief is pawning all of the stolen equipment from his truck and the marina.

“I think he’s looking to steal a bunch of stuff to make some money and move on to the next person,” Foley said.

No one that Action News Jax spoke with recognized the man from the surveillance video.

If you have seen him, call the Jacksonville Sheriff’s office at 904-630-0500.
