Semi hit by train in Orange Park, $300K McLaren wrecked

ORANGE PARK, Fla. — Florida Highway Patrol responded to a train crash at Doctor’s Lake Drive at Greenridge Road in Orange Park Friday morning.

A tractor trailer, driven by 40-year-old Ryan O. Fung of Palm Harbor, stalled on the train tracks, according to Florida Highway Patrol. He got out of his truck in time to avoid getting hit by the train.

The train plowed through his truck. No one was injured in the crash, authorities say.

The mini tractor trailer was carrying a $300,000 McLaren. It was damaged in the crash. Action News reporter Russell Colburn spoke to the car owner, Dr. Jorg Bober.

"The company came by to pick up the McLaren for regular work, for warranty work. And I guess he got stuck on the train tracks," said Dr. Bober.

The doctor found out about the crash from one of his nurses.

"My nurse called me up, she says 'Listen, take Doctors Lake Dr. the opposite way to college because there's a huge train accident.' I didn't think anything of it, 5 minutes later I get a call from the company saying 'Your car is totaled.' I was like 'really, that's my car?" Bober said.

Colburn asked Dr. Bober, "How does that feel?" He responded, "Eh, we'll get another one."

Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Highway Patrol and Florida Department of Transportation were all on the scene.

CSX says four trains total, which are also transporting dozens of vehicles from Orlando to Louisville, were affected.

Amtrak said 2 passenger trains heading from New York City and to Miami with hundreds of people on board, are now delayed.

“I don't know why anybody would try to go across. You can't see from one side to the other. You can't see across,” said Lloyd Walters, a neighbor.

The scene clearly says "No Thru Traffic." Fung was cited for insufficient clearance, which is a moving violation.
