US Marshals track down 22-year-old Lake City murder suspect hiding in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man wanted for a murder in Lake City was tracked down by US Marshals and found hiding in Jacksonville on Wednesday.

The killing happened just before 3 a.m. Monday, June 28, in the area of NE Jackson Avenue and NE Montana Street, the Lake City Police Department said.

When officers arrived, they found two people -- a man and a woman -- who had been shot.

Police say the man they identified as Shane Boone, 23, was shot once and died of his injuries. The 33-year-old woman who police say had been shot multiple times was flown to UF Health in Gainesville. She has since been released.

The police department’s criminal investigation division as well as the Third Circuit State Attorney’s Office quickly began an intense investigation that went on for several weeks. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement was also called out to assist with the crime scene investigation.

Investigators followed up on several leads in the case, and further investigation revealed the gunman was Marquez Henry, 22, of Lake City.

On Wednesday, a US Marshals task force arrested Henry after they found him hiding in Jacksonville.

He faces several charges: murder while engaged in a robbery, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Lake City Police Chief Dr. Argatha Gilmore said she is “glad to give a measure of closure to the community.”
