The most battle ready destroyer now has a new home.
The USS Winston S. Churchill arrived at Naval Station Mayport this morning from Norfolk, VA. As the destroyer came in, about 340 Sailors, dressed in fatigues, were on deck and greeted in the most Florida way possible, with lots of heat, ten minutes of rain, and then more heat.
The ship is an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer and is being heralded as “The most battle ready destroyer in the Navy.” The ship joins the USS Thomas Hudner and the USS Donald Cook as the third ship to come into the port in as many days. The destroyer will undergo intense maintenance for the next year while at Mayport.
