Vigil for young children lost to house fire in Putnam County

On Thursday, the community came together for a vigil and fundraiser for two local children who never made it out of a home that was engulfed and destroyed by a fire in Putnam County.

Investigators believe Na’Ziyah, 4, and Zaden, 5, were left in a home with four other children but no adult supervision.

The Department of Children and Families has vowed to hold whoever was responsible accountable as the investigation into what started the fire continues.

The state fire marshal does not consider it suspicious.

Thursday was a music and prayer-filled night at the Harry Banks Park in Crescent City.

“My son missed football practice for it,” said Leigh Dandridge, a family friend.  “In football, you either show up or you sit, and he’s going to sit, because this is what matters to us.”

Wallace Mims misses his godson.

“He was fun,” Mims said. “He played all the time and was always bad. I just miss him.”

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office says so far, there have been no arrests.

“The case is ongoing, and it’s not for us to judge these people,” said family friend Denise Malone Plyler. “It’s not for us to judge these parents.”
