Violations at Jacksonville Waffle House, roaches found at Putnam restaurant

Two restaurants were temporarily shut down because of high risk health violations and a Jacksonville Waffle House required a follow-up inspection this week.

An inspector saw flies in the kitchen, 20 live roaches and dead roaches at the River Pub Italian Grille in Fruitland in Putnam County.

The restaurant had lingering pest control issues and remained closed until after a second follow-up inspection.

Kairo’s Food and Juice on Beach Boulevard was temporarily shut down after an inspector found 24 live roaches, dead roaches and issued a stop sale on eggs due to temperature violations.

The restaurant reopened after a follow up inspection.

A Waffle House on Busch Drive in Jacksonville required a follow-up inspection after a health inspector saw an employee put on gloves to prepare food without washing their hands first.

The restaurant was also cited for temperature violations for refrigerated pork chops and steak.

The inspector also noted the dish machine wasn’t working properly so employees had to hand wash dishes.

A health inspector gave the Waffle House a clean review during the follow-up inspection.
